Paris

Catherine and I are "doing" Paris!  We have 5 days...... it will be a whirlwind tour.

So far we have eaten at an Algerian restaurant, where, after our friends explained the "gluten free" bit to them, they wanted to know if I was allergic to the cat!  Although as the cat was gluten free perhaps I could have had a nibble or two, settled for a steak.

We have wandered beautiful streets (in fact been so lost that we couldn't find the train to escape), walked along the Seine, been swept along by street music that thumped in our chests, wandered through the Marais for an afternoon of shopping, been out to listen to jazz in the evening (Lionel's friend Bobby), have been witness to a snatch and run thief and spent a lovely day in the Parc du Sceaux.

I didn't feel so good here, I don't think that the French water agrees with me.  Our hosts recommend drinking coke and resting, sounds like a good idea.

We visited a market that comes to the area twice a week.  Everything is wonderfully fresh and some foods still moving (not plucked yet).  The lapin with the plastic bag over its head was a bit hard to take.

Lionel introduces us to some of his jazz playing mates who play up a storm one afternoon in the house.  How wonderful to be a part of this.  Bobby comes to visit us one night (after we have been to see him perform in a jazz club) and is such a warm and engaging personality.

We went to town one day, arrived in the Luxembourg area to be confronted by chest thumping music, riot police, sirens and tens of thousands of people, serious grid lock and freezing weather.  A moving music parade - unbelievable, we couldn't hear ourselves think.....  are we getting old??  Never!

Our last day together (after two exciting months).  We decide to stroll around Parc du Sceaux.  A wonderful chateau with gardens to die for, enormous lakes and even a rowing canal (one kilometre long).  This is a fitting end to our time together although we are certainly not ready to go our separate ways.  We wander and ponder and spend the day in an exquisite garden followed by lunch and some window shopping (well a little shopping shopping as well).

The next morning we have to go our separate ways.  We get on the train - me to get off and catch the Eurostar to London and Catherine to continue on to the airport.  There are tears as I leave Catherine on the train and our trip together ends.  We had spent hours organising this trip, months looking forward to it and now it is over......

Our friendship has reached a whole new level, we are blessed.

Following is a petite view of our Paris adventure (in random order).
